The idea of reselling your clothes can seem scary, with so many questions of how long will it take? Am I taking these photos correctly? What if they don’t like it? Am I pricing this right?

Well, I’m here to tell you these questions and worries are perfectly valid, but they shouldn’t stop you! Reselling is so much easier than people assume, so let’s answer some of these questions.

On the time frame of how long it will take your items to sell, some can take days some could take months and that’s honestly okay, it doesn’t mean you’ve done anything wrong if they take a while to sell, just don’t give up on them.

Taking your photos is a lot simpler than you would assume. All you need is a plain background and a picture of the front, back and any details or slight damage. Photos are even better when the clothes are being worn as it means buyers can clearly see what the item looks like on.

In terms of worrying if the buyer doesn’t like your item, in short, it doesn’t matter. If you have been clear and truthful in your advert and specified no returns, it is not up to you to take the item back if they don’t like it. Therefore, it is so important to be truthful about size and any damage to items therefore you don’t have to worry about annoyed buyers after postage.

Pricing items can be tricky, but with a growing reselling market you can search up similar items and price yours accordingly, it’s as simple as that.

Here are some benefits of reselling your clothes and buying resold clothes:

Benefits of reselling:

  • Reselling your clothes helps you be more eco-friendly, reducing the amount of landfill waste and giving your clothes a second chance to be loved.

  • With sites such as eBay, depop and vinted, reselling your clothes isn’t as hard as it used to be, posting, and advertising your clothes is as easy as it’s ever been.

  • Setting up profiles and accounts on reselling platforms are simple and easy to do, this allows you to post your items and easily keep in contact with your buyers.

  • Selling fees are a small percentage with platforms such as depop being as low as 10% and Vinted being free.

  • Reselling clothes and having a profile allows you to follow other accounts that have similar fashion tases to you, this results in fast sales and being able to buy second hand.

  • Reselling your clothes allows you the opportunity to earn an extra income from items you no longer want or need.

Benefits of resale shopping:

  • one of the key benefits of buying resale clothes is that it is a sustainable way of shopping. ‘The fashion industry is the second largest polluter in the world’ (Charpail, 2017) buying resale items gives these items a second chance and prevents them being ‘thrown into landfill or shipped overseas’ (Roes, 2013)

  • being able to shop styles that you love. Shopping brand new online and instore ‘your choices are mostly limited to the current trends for styles, colours, and fabrics’ (Roes, 2013) shopping preloved allows you to browse many different styles and trends from different times.

  • One of the main problems with fast fashion for buyers is the low quality of the clothing. Shopping resale may mean items are made with better quality at a lower second-hand price.
