As passionate about positive marketing, as I am for a greener way of living, I’d like to welcome you to our site. I hope our website, Instagram and Tiktok inspire viewers, as much as I have been inspired to join the ‘Do the Green Thing’ campaign, to approach a greener way of life. During our research, I was shocked to find just how problematic fast fashion really was. For example, with every new season comes a new fashion trend and consumers rush to buy the latest styles. However, many of us don’t give a second thought about how this is made possible or the problems that arise with increasing demand. Below you will find an eye-opening piece of information, sourced from the BBC Earth website, that exemplifies issues surrounding clothing returns and where our returns end up. This ‘material’, amongst other resources, became my ignition for the campaign that fuelled my drive to find solutions.

I am a Media and Communications student who is passionate about promoting a more sustainable way of living. The ‘Do the Green Thing’ campaign has encouraged me to live a greener life, and I hope that our campaign can help viewers discover the positives of alternatives to buying fast fashion, such as second-hand items, re-working and reselling garments. We hope to reduce the consumption of fast fashion by increasing awareness of its damaging environmental impacts and promoting alternatives. Although we are targeting serious issues, we hope to remain innovative whilst reaching a varied audience, using social media to convey our message. Even making small changes to our everyday habits can lead to a more green and friendly future.

As an anti climate change activist, this campaign has inspired me to continue to educated myself on the day to day issues which have major impacts on our environment. Fast fashion is one of those issues, contributing massively to textile waste and CO2 emissions during production. As someone with an interest in darker, more gothic clothing, I always assumed it would be harder for me to find non fast-fashion alternative clothing, but that is not the case. Through my research, I have found that anyone of any style or size can shop ethically and find alternatives to fast fashion that suits them, and for a lot cheaper than buying new too.

I am part of this campaign team to bring attention to how easy and accessible alternatives to fast fashion can be. I’m a lover of fashion and enjoy seeing the trends change and how fashion evolves and resurfaces, however with the growing progress of fast fashion the trends are changing quicker, and quality of clothes are decreasing.
Perusing media and communications allows me to be able to use platforms and social media to spread messages such as using alternatives to fast fashion whilst also feeling good and loving the fashion industry. There are so many sustainable fashion companies to shop from however they are normally smaller and a bit more expensive as its harder for companies to function sustainably than to use fast fashion techniques. I’ve learned that shopping sustainably also doesn’t have to be more expensive, shopping from charity shops and resale sites provides great quality clothes at a second hand price whilst also reducing the amount of wasted textiles in the world.

Introduction: I am a student of Media and Communications who is very interested in promoting a more sustainable way to live. I didn’t really know a great deal about the fast fashion industry and the negative impact it has on the environment. The ‘Do the Green Thing’ campaign has opened my eyes to the vast benefits of sustainable fashion and how we can improve. I was incredibly shocked to discover how much clothing material is wasted in the fast fashion industry. And I hope this project encourages more people to buy used clothes to give them a new lease of life.

Before this campaign for “Do the Green Thing”, I wasn’t too knowledgeable about Fast Fashion and the damages it causes to the environment. I didn’t want to learn about how my buying habits impacted the climate in such a negative way and so I ignored all the calls for a better way of living. This project has made me take a closer look at my methods and realise I need to improve myself for the good of the earth. I hope this project helps other people have the same realisation about themselves and allow themselves to change for the better with the help of me and the others within this project!
